The Challenge:
To modernize university lecture chairs using client’s existing tooling and manufacturing capabilities.
The Process:
Deep research, prototyping and testing of a dozen innovative folding mechanisms that reduce part count and manufacture costs, increase strength, and provide customization options to client.
The Solution:
This simple chair mechanism uses gravity to lift the seat back up; no springs needed!
The structure is made of steel tubes using simple bends to simplify manual operations during manufacture. All bentwood panels are made from tooling, the outer shape of the seat and backrest can be customized by simple CNC router operation.
